Elephant Race The great Asian Elephant - the most intelligent,
friendly, beneficial and biggest mammal on earth - is practically at the
verge of extinction. The Annual Elephant race of Sauraha is an effort of
the local people to generate awareness regarding these great beasts. The
race has been quite instrumental in bringing a lot of attention
regarding the animal. Chitwan was home to a huge number of elephants.
Now experts estimate that there are around 200 elephants in Nepal, out
of which some 80 elephants are in Sauraha and some 48 elephants are
operated inside the national park by private jungle lodges.
